Grady and Alene

Grady and Alene

Grandpa Beavers died this morning about 5 am. This ends a nearly 5 year ordeal of nursing home confinement after his stroke Feb of 2002. The last thing he was able to ask me was "How's your family?". He dearly loved hearing about Paul, Stacy and Darren and about Stacy's grandgirls. There was a visit that went by that he didn't ask about them. He was grateful for your love and concern.

The other great attribute we "inherited" from him was a sense of humor. Whenever I get a little sad thinking about him, I remember what he said to me one day after I had come from a funeral. He said "I hate that slow walking and sad singing!". [in old days and other countries, the families and other mourners would walk behind the hearse and sing on the way to the funeral.]
So in the spirit of humor- please share your favorite "Grandpa Beavers-ism".
Love Mom

I used to always laugh when he would say to me something along the lines of "you didn't know what a crazy family you were marrying into." The truth of the matter is that I often think about how blessed I am to have joined such a wonderful family. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to meet Grandpa Beavers and enjoy his navy stories and sense of humor.

When Darren and I were engaged, we visited New Mexico and I met Grandpa Beavers for the first time. The first thing he said to Darren and I was, "Well, looks like the pick up truck is working!" Darren previously explained to me, something his grandpa told him, "The whole point of a pick up truck is to pick up a women." I am so happy that I was able to meet Grandpa Beavers. As we left after the first visit he started to cry, it made me want to cry. I was so glad to be able to meet and spend a little time with the man who sacrificed much to create such an amazing family!
